Jacob Godwin Mlay was a leader of the opposition party CHADEMA in Temeke. He was an active participant in democracy and human rights movements.
On August 18, 2024, Jacob was abducted along with Deusdedith Soka and Frank Mbise in the Buza area. He accompanied Soka as a precaution after Soka was called to Changombe Police Station allegedly to check on a stolen motorcycle. CHADEMA said this was a trap and they were allegedly abducted by a special police task force. He has not been found to date.
